How Big is Facebook?
Mark Ghuneim, (@mediaeater) is the Founder/CEO of digital marketing agency and technology incubator Wiredset and social media tracking service Trendrr. It’s amazing to think just a few short years ago the “interweb” was abuzz with the dominance of Friendster, YouTube was a simple beta test of cat videos, and the word tweet was only used to describe the sound of a bird. Changes to the social web continue to accelerate, with new generations joining the party and new platforms changing the way we communicate. Few have grown to capture as much mindshare as Facebook. What started as a place for students to socialize is now a cross-generational, location-agnostic meeting place that at once keeps us in touch with our second grade buddies, distant relatives and closest friends. But just how prominent is Facebook in our culture? We’ve gathered together a number of metrics that illustrate the growth and cultural saturation Facebook currently enjoys. – Mark Ghuneim, April 4, 2009
