Jason Damata - Founder, Fabric Media

Jason has spent over a decade working with media companies; from television networks, magazines and content companies, to branded entertainment firms, advertising agencies large and small to one of the world’s largest social networks and technology platforms that help revolutionize the media and TV industries. He started Fabric Media as a professional collective focused on media relations, marketing and business development for companies at the intersection of technology and entertainment.

Damata has led media campaigns for TV Networks including ShortsHD, TVOne, and C-SPAN, celebrities, such as Dave Navarro, Tom Green, and Kevin Bacon; leading brands Crocs, Gap, Jeep and Sprint; and advertising agencies including Wiredset, Pluris Marketing and Leo Burnett-NYC. In addition to serving as chief media officer for bebo.com when it was the world’s third largest social network, Jason has led the media launch of digital companies Trendrr.TV, the category defining platform for social TV, Clearleap, the tv technology platform that helped redefine VOD, as well as Fora.TV, the MeNetwork, maniaTV, JookTV and many more. Driven by a deep passion for improving people’s lives and helping the world, Jason has led global media initiatives for the Love Hope Strength Foundation; the world’s leading music-based cancer charity and explore.org, a philanthropic media organization and multi-media arm of The Annenberg Foundation.

His business development work includes brokering long term media partnerships for clients with CNN, National Geographic, The Associated Press, Advertising Age, Village Voice Media, Forbes, NY Post, Mashable, Multichannel News, and Paid Content and he has helped many organizations find a business to business relationship that improved their bottom lines. He has penned columns for numerous publications and has been quoted on cultural, technology and media trends in the NY Times, WSJ, USA Today, Forbes, ABC News, CNN and Advertising Age, to name just a few.

Prior to forming Fabric Media in 2007, Jason traveled the country working with cable operators on behalf of C-SPAN, the political TV network of record for American democracy. Damata has worked as a TV host, reporter, producer and marketer, and has owned and operated a telecommunications policy research firm, a creative college magazine and an award-winning restaurant. Rumor also has it he can be spotted as an extra in Zoolander, Sex in the City, Law and Order, in various shows on Animal Planet and that he gave up an early career in modeling to pursue his love of cheeseburgers and ice cream.

With an insatiable appetite and dedication to lifelong learning, he graduated with a BA from the University of Denver with a dual major in journalism and philosophy and a triple minor in international relations, politics and drama. He studied international politics at CUNY-John Jay School of Criminal Justice and has earned credits towards his Master’s for his work at C-SPAN producing an interactive educational TV show that brought together leaders in Washington D.C. with students at five college campuses around the U.S.

Jason prides himself with a relentless work ethic, creative approach and immersion into his clients’ business. He grew up in Boston and has lived and worked in New York City, Washington D.C., San Francisco and Denver; where he currently resides with his wife Heidi, son Rio and ridiculously cute dogs Charlotte and Simba. He went gray at age 24.
